Portfolio

This portfolio is composed of two artistic projects developed between 2021 and 2023, a group exhibition at an independent art gallery in Bilbao and my ongoing investigative work.

“Con ser Hombres os basta” is an sculptural installation created as the final project for my Master’s Degree in Ceramics at UPV/EHU. The pieces in this installation share certain formal and conceptual characteristics. Coming from a family of firefighters, firemen and ceramics become the central themes around which the works revolve, accompanied by various structural elements and shifts in the characteristics of different materials such as fabric or metal.

“Trigger and Target” is a photographic work that merges with sculpture to gain strong conceptual relevance. Based on the premise of using controlled violent acts, a linguistic process begins to emerge. This project was inspired by a visit to Battle Mountain and Austin, small mining towns in Northern Nevada, USA, where diverse cultural and personal narratives intersect with the act of extracting material from underground.

“Doce hachas y un besito” is the title of the installation created for Okela, an independent art space nestled in the heart of Bilbao. The work comprises a series of pieces crafted from mirrors, meticulously cut using a high-pressure mix of sand and water. Shaped like axes, the mirrors are embedded into the gallery’s walls; echoes of the building’s former life as a butcher shop.

My lastest project, still in process, delves into the relationship between territory and the individual through the act of creation and destruction. Using both traditional and contemporary ceramic techniques, clay vessels and target forms are made, only to be later intervened upon with bows, arrows, and other objects. The process and results will be documented and presented in a final installation that invites reflection on creation, destruction, and the transfor- mation of the landscape.
